Where we are headed

The Course Compass voyage.

We are pre-launch and building fast. Course Compass already works — the priority engine, Clipper the parrot, the dubloon economy, and local notes indexing are all live and running in students' browsers. What you see below is what we have shipped and exactly what we are building toward.

We publish this roadmap honestly. "Building now" means in active development. "Up next" means we know the shape of the work. "Later" means we are confident it belongs on the ship, just not on the deck yet.

The voyage plan

Five phases, one destination.

Every phase builds on the last. We are not throwing features at the wall — we are navigating toward a complete study companion that respects student budgets and student brains.

Phase 0

Foundation

Shipped
  • Smart assignment priority engine — ranks your Canvas work by due date, points, and type so you always know what to do next
  • Clipper the parrot study buddy — encouragement, cracker rewards, page-specific tips, and a talkativeness dial
  • Treasure-hunt dubloon economy — earn dubloons for study sessions and note reads; spend them in the cosmetics shop
  • Local notes indexing with keyword retrieval — import your PDFs, slides, and notes; Ask Clipper surfaces relevant chunks
  • Focus timer with streak tracking and Finals Week double-dubloon bonus
  • Guided first-run setup — a welcome screen auto-detects your Canvas URL and a step-by-step tutorial walks you through the panel on your first Canvas visit

The free Chrome extension that lives inside Canvas. No account required to start.

Phase 1

Chrome Web Store launch + Accounts

Building now
  • Chrome Web Store listing — Course Compass goes public and available to any student
  • Google sign-in and Course Compass account on chartededutech.com
  • Cross-device sync — your priority list, streak, and cosmetics follow you across machines
  • Account dashboard on the web — see your stats, manage billing, export data

This is the phase that makes Course Compass a real product, not just a beta build.

Phase 2

AI Study Layer

Up next
  • Managed AI via Claude — no API key required; AI credits included with Plus and Pro plans
  • Plus ($4.99/mo) and Pro ($9.99/mo) tiers via Paddle billing — student-priced, cancel anytime
  • AI notes indexing — semantic search across your imported files, not just keyword match
  • Quiz generation from your own notes — Clipper quizzes you on the material, you actually remember it
  • Draft pre-grading and handwriting OCR for scanned notes and assignments

AI features are always opt-in. The free tier stays free and fully functional.

Phase 3

Full Web App

Later
  • Dashboard ported to chartededutech.com — full assignment tracking and notes access from any browser, no extension required
  • PDF and slide viewer on the web — annotate, highlight, and search your imported files
  • Assignment tracking via web — see what is due, submit progress notes, review your semester arc
  • Mobile-friendly web interface — reference your priority list from your phone between classes

Phase 4

Advanced Intelligence

Later
  • Semantic search across all your notes — find the concept, not just the exact keyword
  • Syllabus auto-schedule extraction — drop in your syllabus and watch the semester map itself
  • Spaced-repetition system (SRS) — Clipper surfaces the right flashcard at exactly the right time
  • Canvas auto-sync bridge — deeper integration with Canvas data for richer priority signals

How we decide what to build.

Free tier stays genuinely useful — not crippled to force an upgrade
Student data stays on the student's device unless they explicitly opt into sync
Clipper's personality comes before feature count — delight is a design constraint
One polished feature beats three half-built ones — we ship when it is ready
Students who email us shape the roadmap — we read every message
AI assists your thinking — it does not replace it
